Just in time for Infection Prevention Week – recognized October 18-24 this year – Greene County Medical Center has added a member to its infection prevention team. The Tru-D SmartUVC, a germ-eliminating UVC disinfection robot.
Tru-D, short for “Total Room Ultraviolet Disinfection,” is an automated, remotely-operated, portable UV disinfection device. After an environmental services team member cleans a room using traditional methods, Tru-D is rolled in to complete the process.
The device is turned on from outside the room using a remote control. Tru-D’s sensors calculate the amount of UVC energy needed to disinfect the room, and then floods the targeted space with the proper amount of UVC light. Tru-D spends whatever time is necessary to confidently eliminate infectious germs from contaminated surfaces before shutting down and notifying the operator that disinfection is complete.
Tru-D can be used to disinfect virtually any area in the medical center, including patient rooms, operating rooms, emergency rooms and public spaces.
“This technology is simply another way we’re working to safeguard the well-being of every patient who walks through our doors,” said Heather Kinsey, the medical center’s infection prevention nurse. “We’ve always held to high standards for medical center cleanliness and disinfection, to protect our patients from serious hospital-acquired infections. Tru-D adds an additional layer of protection.”
